In a moment when our family felt helpless, Alyssa became a steady, comforting presence. She was someone we knew we could trust.
I would like to nominate Alyssa for the DAISY Award in recognition of the extraordinary care she gave my Grandma B during a very difficult and uncomfortable time in her hospital stay. My grandma suffered from a stroke and, after receiving care in the Emergency Department, was transferred to the ICU for close observation.

My grandma suffers from terrible leg cramps, and the only relief she gets from these cramps is to walk them out. Due to the medication she received in the emergency room, she was unable to get out of bed for 24 hours, making it difficult to find relief from these terrible cramps. This was very uncomfortable for my grandma, but Alyssa’s calm presence, kindness, and patience made all the difference during that difficult 24 hours. Alyssa never rushed my grandma or made her feel like a burden. Instead, Alyssa treated her with compassion, preserving her dignity in every interaction - whether it was assisting her physically, managing her pain, or simply offering a reassuring word.

Alyssa also took the time to explain what was happening in a way my entire family could understand, and her gentle demeanor helped ease not only my grandma’s anxiety but ours as well. Alyssa’s kindness went far beyond the basics of nursing. In a moment when our family felt helpless, Alyssa became a steady, comforting presence. She was someone we knew we could trust. We are deeply grateful for the compassionate care that she provided for my grandma during her two days in the ICU.

Thanks, Alyssa!
