The Mother of a patient spoke with Alyssa (their nurse for this day) about how difficult it was for her to get groceries. Mom stated that she did not want to go to the grocery store because she did not want to risk contracting COVID and passing it to her immunocompromised daughter. Additionally, mom tried to get groceries online for drive-thru pick up, however, there was a week long waiting list. After hearing the concerns Alyssa asked mom if it was ok if she made a few phone calls on her behalf to see if she could help to get the family groceries safely. Alyssa went above and beyond and reached out to Publix where she explained the predicament that the mother was in. The grocery store agreed to personally shop for mom, as well as deliver the groceries personally if she did not want to drive to pick them up. Alyssa set the entire event up, even ensuring that the grocery list was faxed and received. She truly went above and beyond and embraced family-centered care by ensuring that mom and patient got the items they needed, all while ensuring the safety of the patient. I know the act of kindness that she exhibited on this day will never be forgotten by this family.
