I went in to be induced, and that’s when I met Alyssa. First, I had another nurse, then overnight she became my nurse. From the moment I was her patient, she made me feel cared for and safe. She never made me feel like a burden, and she tried everything to make me feel comfortable and to safely induce labor. The next day she was my nurse again, and she helped deliver my baby boy. I want to give recognition to Alyssa because I believe that with her care, knowledge, and compassion, she gave me the strength to deliver. She was meant to be my nurse. She recognized when I felt like I wasn’t pushing right and would remind me how. When I felt like giving up, she gave me the push that I needed. Giving up wasn’t an option for us, and she never once made me feel like I couldn’t do it; instead, she gave me the strength because I felt how much she believed I could. Alyssa is an amazing nurse. I’m so glad she was there to deliver my son. To this day, 7 months later, I still discuss with my sister (who was at the birth) how great a nurse she is and how I needed her in that moment. We worked amazingly together as a team.
To this day, Alyssa holds a special place in my heart for caring for me in my most vulnerable and lonely moment. The hug she gave me when she dropped me off at the mother-baby unit felt like a moment of comfort and peace that I needed so badly, and she could see that. Birth was so difficult for me mentally and emotionally, and Alyssa’s warmth and care helped me to get through it. She cared for me before birth, during, and helped me after. The after might have been the worst part, but she was so patient and caring. I hope that all mothers experience labor with a nurse like Alyssa. It’s the most vulnerable moment in our lives, and someone like her is who we need at our side. Alyssa is a phenomenal nurse, and I cannot put into words how grateful and appreciative I am for her care and knowledge.
