This nomination is difficult to know where to start, I was recently hospitalized for 6 days. I was suffering from sepsis and fever brought on by a recent change to my Chrohn's medication and an extreme hacking cough that was unrelenting and had kept me awake for 3 days prior to hospitalization. I remained without even a moment's rest for 8 total days, I was quite delirious (miraculously still logical, though).
Alyssa was coming on duty when I was sent to 4 West. She was very motivated to help me drop my fever (now at 102.5) and constantly provided well above what anyone would consider an excellent standard of care. She constantly searched for ways to try to help me with my cough and my comfort. Her constant efforts amid her other duties were nothing short of exemplary. She was supremely intelligent and acted nearly immediately on every idea or plan to help.
She was kind, patient, and provided real comfort through her efforts. I was in a life-changing sickness and downward spiral and her dedication to her patient kept my hope and spirit alive. She was innovative and offered exceptional problem-solving skills. As I was researching my illnesses, she was able to offer higher-level answers to my questions. She was able to flawlessly multitask and prioritize the work she was responsible for or had taken on as well. All through she maintained a healing demeanor and a refreshing sense of humor.
What she provided in care to me was life-changing. I am not exaggerating when I make that claim, she helped me through perhaps the most difficult time of my life. She constantly exceeded any expectations and seemed to have instant access to knowing which resources might help in each situation. She is amazingly self-driven and seemed to provide this type of service and care to all of her patients and staff simultaneously.
For my part, I have completely changed to a clean, healthy lifestyle and my body has responded very well. It was her care that gave me hope and provided me comfort in my darkest hour. I believe that she deserves to be recognized for care at such a high level, well beyond what anyone would consider exceptional standard care. What she did was life-changing for me and she maintained that she was just doing her job. Without her care, my outcome may well have been much less desirable. I will be forever grateful for the care that she provided me. Thank you.
