Not only was she in my room within a minute or two almost every time I pushed the call button, but she came with a smile, enthusiasm, energy, and a desire to meet my every need.
There was one bright star who made an amazing impression on me. This RN was a guardian angel who performed way beyond any expectations that I had when I arrived at BBMC. This RN seemed to anticipate my every need even before I did. In spite of being very busy serving many patients in the hospital unit, this RN would check on me over and over and over. She made certain that every need was met with knowledge and professionalism. I was blessed to have this RN as my nurse for two consecutive days. I guess a nurse can pay more attention to one patient than to the other patients. However, in this case, I would bet she gave every one of her patients a feeling that they were the only patient she was tending to.
One of the days one of the assistant nurses wrote this RN's name on the board before I knew she was my nurse again. I said to the assistant, "I'm so glad I have this RN again today, she is the best nurse I've ever had". The assistant said to me, "you are the second person who said that to me". That is a clear message to me that she treated everyone she served as very special. This RN made me feel like I was the only person in the world and she was my personal helpmate. Not only was she in my room within a minute or two almost every time I pushed the call button, but she came with a smile, enthusiasm, energy, and a desire to meet my every need. This RN never left my room without expressing "If there is anything I can do for you, please call me". The beauty of that was that she meant it, wanted to do it, and did it with love and compassion.
My granddaughter is a nurse. Therefore, I realize the immense amount of pressure these caretakers can be under when there can be an emergency at any moment and that patients can be very demanding, not realizing how shorthanded the profession is, in today's world. After two days of caring for me, my thought was that this RN cared for me as if I was a loved member of her family. I think I will adopt her, she is so special.
Over the years I have hired hundreds of employees when I was a CEO and company president. I let her know that if I was still hiring people, she would be on the top of my list. She was that special. It is wonderful to see a young adult that treats others with total respect and a true desire to serve, without any expectation of reward from the one to whom she gives 100 percent of her time and affection. I hope BBWMC can keep her on your nursing staff long into the future. She is among your greatest assets. She is a "rising star".
