Alyssa made sure I was comfortable, changed my sheets, helped me to the bathroom, brought me warm blankets, and just seemed to meet every need comfortably.
Alyssa was with me for many nights and helped me over my frequent bumps in the road to discharge. I've been here for just about three weeks, so continuity was important. I had emergency abdominal surgery followed by a cyst development, a new drain, thoracentesis, and more, all complicated by steroid use for Polymyalgia Rheumatica. Alyssa explained things clearly, was always present, never rushed. She constantly taught me about the colostomy, the drains, what was compatible with what fluids. I had to go to FAHC for management of the cyst, placement of a drain, and the thoracentesis. Throughout the night after the procedure, Alyssa made sure I was comfortable, changed my sheets, helped me to the bathroom, brought me warm blankets, and just seemed to meet every need comfortably. While doing that, she also encouraged more movement, more walking, and more self-care and assured I was eating enough. I am now ready to leave this wonderful gem of a hospital and will be discharged on Monday if all goes according to plan. Alyssa Payette is a true DAISY Nurse.
