Alyssa was incredible. We had had so many wonderful nurses in our time here, but Alyssa really stood out for her exceptional nursing care, knowledge of techniques and tools, and excellent organizational skills. Examples:

Identified items that we were unaware of that significantly improved X's comfort and care: a comfort glide pad that enabled us to more effectively move X up in the bed when she slid down, a suction toothbrush for oral care, black wedge pads to help keep X wedged in bed. Recognized that X had not had oral care. We were unaware that oral care was possible in her situation and didn't know to ask for it. Reached out to child life to obtain fingernail polish to paint X's toenails pink, her favorite color. Helped us set up a more consistent feeding schedule so that we could better coordinate with therapy sessions. Organized and sorted all her care items into separate bins/spaces for easier use and replenishment. Supported X's emotional needs when she was discouraged during the day. Was just all-around "in charge" of the room and X's care, coordinating with doctors and therapists throughout the day to make things happen.

Alyssa seemed to do all the right things and do them the right way. We told her she should consider teaching; she would return the investment in spades with all the nurses she would train! Thank you, Alyssa!
