I am writing a nomination award letter, but not for just one outstanding situation that stands alone, solely to be the reason I am so very excited to share my story- our journey- of a 60-year-old female patient standing in front of one young, sweet, humble kid nurse, expecting her style, grace, wisdom, talent, confidence, and very efficient bedside manner. She didn't even realize the charm, calmness, and grace of a true winner she exudes. The beauty of her experience/softness/ efficiency behind my closed hospital door just put me in a starstruck mode for her elegance in handling my private patient concerns, all while I rested comfortably, not knowing she was already handling conversations we would have about anything that would comfort me and lined up our tasks after another so quickly and smoothly.

Needless to say, I am not the only patient she has on an entire unit! Not once did she complain, forget my request, or come up short on helping me because she had obligations to many other patients on the entire floor, with many health problems, especially the elderly, and the time she needed to spend with them to explain and comfort them because they can be difficult or cause quite a mess rather quickly. Sometimes, time needed to be spent with patients because that is what they needed and deserved, but somehow, someway, Alyssa would surprise me and be right back in my room with whatever I requested, just like that.

I have been hospitalized quite a few times through my years for many illnesses, and I have had my share of every kind of nurse you receive on your shift, and Alyssa stands out far more in my eyes because of her smarts and uniqueness, making me feel heard and seen, and she secretly is making 100% sure she wants to comfort me ASAP but with grace and herolike structure.

Thank you, Alyssa, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
