My son was admitted. He is our first child, and it’s been a long 7 years waiting for him to come, so it really meant a lot to us when this nurse spoke up when she felt something was wrong. He was having difficulty breathing, and we were just hoping and praying for a speedy recovery for him. His oxygen level had been going down on and off for a few days. It was suspected this is a typical response and could potentially be acid reflux or his body learning to breathe on his own. It wasn’t until this exceptional nurse advocated for a chest x-ray and reevaluation from the physician and NP. It turned out he had pneumonia and had to be transferred to a higher level of care. I am forever grateful to this nurse for speaking up and taking great care of him, which is why I want to nominate her for the DAISY Award. She always kept us calm and always communicated with us, which made us feel at ease during a difficult time
