February 2021 Honoree
alyssa saggau, RN
I want to commend Alyssa Saggau for her compassionate care for her patient. The patient arrived at our unit stating that she wanted to die. After Alyssa discussed the potential interventions with me: patient observation, Hospice, clergy, etc., she had her talk to her daughter. She also called Reverend C to come to see her. The patient decided that she wanted to go to Hospice. Alyssa arranged for the Hospice team to come and sign her up. She quickly carried out the Hospice orders and had her daughter come in to visit. She helped her with PPE and explained everything to the patient and her daughter. I was in the room with them at one point and witnessed Alyssa talking with the patient with such kindness. She helped her to reminisce and think about her fond memories with her family and friends. She truly took care of her patient: mind, body, and spirit.
Thank you, Alyssa, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
