Alyssa Salerno is an RN on the Labor and Delivery unit at GWV. She was nominated by her colleague for her strong dedication to her patients as well as the compassionate, genuine, and diligent care she provides. Alyssa regularly seeks out opportunities to learn by taking classes, helping others, and volunteering to do things outside of her comfort zone.

One story that left a lasting impression on her colleague was a time when sadly there was a fetal demise on the unit. Alyssa volunteered to help bathe the infant to not only provide support for the nurse who was taking care of this patient but also to learn those skills for her future bereavement patients. She was also able to provide support to the family during this extremely difficult and emotional time for them.

Alyssa is a hard worker and a team player. She takes a genuine interest in the lives of not only the patients is caring for, but also her fellow co-workers. When she is on the unit, she does whatever she can to ensure the other nurses on her shift have a good day and helps out whenever she can.

Alyssa graduated in 2021 with her BSN and started her nursing career in early 2022. She fell in love with labor and delivery during her clinical rotation, noting that Geisinger always allowed the best experience for the students to learn. She chose to become a nurse at Geisinger because of the exemplary care it’s known to provide to patients. One of the best things about working at GWV is the friendships she has formed with her co-workers. “I truly believe my friends on the unit played a major role in my development of becoming the nurse I am today. Without their support, guidance, constructive criticism, and genuine reassurance I am not sure I would have continued the journey in this specialty.”

Alyssa is extremely grateful that she has the opportunity to be a part of so many families' birthing experiences and would not trade it for the world! We are so incredibly proud of Alyssa and the incredible care she provides to her patients on a daily basis. We are lucky to have her as part of our Geisinger team!
