I am so honored to share my story of a super special nurse by the name of Alyssa. I was in severe pain for the two back-to-back shifts of Alyssa's schedule. I had a catheter that kept clotting every half hour. I would press the call button and Alyssa would immediately come to my room, and with the help of a PCA, Alyssa would irrigate my catheter and relieve pain. Clot after clot after clot. And when I thought I couldn't take it anymore, this skillful, compassionate, caring nurse would comfort me with her words and actions. I called upon her time after time and Alyssa never got flustered, she never showed that I was a burden on her. Alyssa got me through a very tough time in my life. I am a better man for having known her. She is an absolute gift to the nursing world. When I could not take the pain and was talking about giving up, Alyssa would not let me. She motivated me to hang in there, told me to be strong - you can do this! Alyssa was so positive! She absolutely nursed me back to health. I truly believe I would not have gotten better without her. I think about her to this very day. I wish I could thank her in person. I hope this letter reaches my nursing angel. I leave her with this poem. "Sometimes my life gets so empty that I become afraid. Then I remember that you were in it, and I think I might still have it made." I will never forget you.
