January 2023 Honoree
Alyssa Smith, RN
As I prepared for my surgery, Alyssa greeted me warmly as she introduced herself. She explained changing into the gown and she said she would be back for me. I told her my doctor assured me I could use the restroom just before surgery and she assured me that I just had to ask. This is where her kindness and compassion showed. A previous surgery I had in a hospital, I was yelled at and made to feel I was a bother to that nurse. Alyssa explained everything to me as she started the IV and got me warm blankets. After 45 minutes of waiting with the IV in, I asked to use the restroom and Alyssa promptly took me. She said she would slow down the IV. Just before they took me to surgery, she asked if I wanted to use the restroom again, and I did. Alyssa's care for me was above anything I ever experienced. I was treated with respect and courtesy.
Thank you, Alyssa, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
