Alyssa Zabala has been with our Primary Care Practice since 2018. In that time, she has become an INVALUABLE member of our team. Her responsibilities are many, and Ms. Zabala performs them all with skill and compassion, however, it is the times Ms. Zabala goes above and beyond for our patients that truly set her apart from other nurses.
There are many examples - but a recent one stands out. In contacting a pharmacy regarding a refill, the pharmacist shared that the patient was feeling "suicidal" the last time they had spoken with them. Others may have taken this as a side comment and dismissed it - Ms. Zabala immediately identified the situation as the emergency it was and contacted the patient. She was able to speak to the patient, assess that there was indeed suicidality, keep him engaged on the phone and at the same time, work with our supervisor to contact EMS, all while keeping the patient talking and safe until EMS arrived and transported the patient to the hospital, where he was admitted for further care.
Ms. Zabala is truly interested in the well-being of our patients and takes every aspect of their care seriously. In her two years with us, she has continued her professional development - she is one of the very few RNs at Northwell who is Board Certified in Ambulatory Care, and has completed a Masters in Health IT. Our primary care team is infinitely stronger and our patients significantly healthier because of Alyssa Zabala!
