Alyx Johnson, RN, ADN

My 78-year-old mother was a patient in October for 10 days. She has MS and is wheelchair-bound. She gets Urosepsis very easily, with recurring kidney stones. Alyx worked very hard while taking care of my mom. She was very compassionate and took the time to help my mom understand things in a better way than I could. My mom was on three different IV antibiotics with a Hoyer lift and a feeder. My mom was also dehydrated but had to watch how much IV fluids she got because of sepsis. Alyx was very diligent about giving her oral fluids and getting up in the chair. She explained the end-of-life care to my mom, which was much more understanding and compassionate than how I told her. When my mom asked her what she thought about end-of-life, Alyx told her it’s not about what anyone thinks but you, how do you want your end-of-life to look like? Do you want comfort, or do you want to be poked, and hurt? She took the time to answer my questions and always messaged the doctor for me. Alyx also told me to talk to people about how I feel. She cared about my well-being, too. She gave me a big hug. Alyx is truly there for her patients and families. You can tell she loves her job. Alyx is an outstanding nurse and deserves this award. She stands out and goes above and beyond in all aspects.
