Mandy cared for a patient who had a new feeding tube. Though the patient was stable and maintaining, Mandy saw the opportunity to improve their outcome. She developed a plan for the patient to administer their own feedings in the hope that they would not need to be discharged to a skilled nursing facility. She drew up step-by-step instructional material for the patient and worked with them to become independent with administering their own feedings. Mandy also watched the patient's lab values and worked with other departments to improve the patient's outcome. I don't believe I have seen a nurse take such ownership in meeting all of a patient's needs. Stability was never enough; she was always looking to improve their situation and outcome. I found it personally inspiring!
