Amanda Lema is the quintessential RN and a poster woman for excellence in nursing. She is steadfastly committed to serving her charges in the best way possible. She routinely stays after her shift ends to do something she has told a resident she would do, or find information she has told a resident she would find. Her dogma is "I said I would do it," so she does. When she knows relevant information will become available during another shift - a note is left for the other nurses to address the issue and checks on it when she gets back, even when she's on leave. She treats all of us with the utmost respect, even when we act out or become abusive. I have never seen her respectful demeanor change, not even her voice. Amanda is the one to go to with really important matters. I trust her implicitly to be my true advocate, in every situation. She was why the DAISY Award was created: to honor those nurses who make a big difference in the lives of so many people. Including mine.
