I am nominating Amanda for a DAISY Award for multiple reasons, including her compassion, attention to detail, and empathy for all her patients. I have seen Amanda be selfless and go above and beyond with compassion for all her patients in the Endoscopy unit. We only see patients for a short time in Endoscopy while they are undergoing a procedure. Amanda makes every patient feel comfortable and valued, and makes them feel like a top priority. Specifically, we had a patient who was a current cancer patient, still getting regular chemo treatments, and visibly losing her hair. This patient complimented Amanda on her hair cap and how beautifully it was made. Amanda humbly took the compliment and told the patient that she had made the cap herself. The patient praised Amanda's work, stating that she was not able to find caps she liked to cover her ever-balding head. Without any hesitation, Amanda went to her locker, got another cap she had made, and gave it to the patient to take home. The patient was so moved and thankful that they both held hands and shared a tearful, yet beautiful moment before beginning the procedure. Amanda is the epitome of being an amazing, compassionate nurse and is someone I look up to and strive to be more like in my everyday nursing practice.
