I truly appreciated the continuity of care in having Amanda take care of me for more than one day. It really helped to build a relationship with her, which put me at ease for sure.
When I was admitted to Huntington Hospital I nearly lost my life. Facing a life-threatening illness, I experienced a secondary severe GI bleed that required many units of blood, two emergency procedures, and one life-saving surgery, first in the ER and then while a patient in the unit. I was absolutely terrified, as previously I had been a healthy, physically fit, and active professional, community member, and family member, and suddenly I was completely helpless and vulnerable.

Once I was medically stable, I was transferred from this unit to the other unit to continue my healing and recovery. During my 5 days on this unit, I met some of the most marvelous nurses, patient care associates, and other professionals in the world, all of whom helped me so much. However, a couple of nurses really stood out to me, one of whom is Amanda. I am pleased to recognize her professionalism, her excellent clinical skills, her collaboration with the other professionals involved in my care, and, most of all, her warm human touch.

Amanda was my nurse for two days during my stay on the unit. I truly appreciated the continuity of care in having Amanda take care of me for more than one day. It really helped to build a relationship with her, which put me at ease for sure. I also appreciated that Amanda took the time not only to know my case but also to know ME as a person. My husband also appreciated her warm attentiveness. In the rushed setting of the unit, it was so healing to be able to just pause for a few moments and visit with Amanda, even as she so flawlessly took care of every single detail of my treatment.

One of my doctors commented admiringly, “Amanda is an excellent nurse!” and I couldn’t agree more. It is clear that Amanda is a team player, as evidenced by her strong communication and collaboration with the doctors and other professionals who were helping me. For example, she collaborated with my nurse earlier in the week, ensuring that my transport to and from the radiation oncologist’s office went off without a hitch. She was also very flexible when circumstances changed, such as when the timing for the transport needed to change. Thank you, Amanda, for your warmth and care during my stay on the unit. You made such a huge difference in my life!
