Amanda's nomination came from an ICU patient with diabetes complications who had been hospitalized a number of times. She remembered Amanda from her prior hospitalizations for her kind nature. The patient described her hospitalization as a time of great anxiety, not only because of her health condition but also because of an acute domestic violence situation. Amanda kept the patient calm and lent a listening ear to help the patient cope with the challenging times she was facing. The patient said Amanda gave her hope to not give up.
