On Wednesday Amanda was given a sickle cell child for transfusion. Once they arrived grandpa was called away to consult with an attorney. This family has a ton of social issues, being grandpa has custody of all 7 grandkids ranging in age from 1 year to approximately 13yrs. Amanda was in the isolation room with 4 kids, including the patient. The baby just turned 1, a 2-year-old, the patient is 9 and an older sibling. Amanda was able to access this patient, get his labs, monitor the 1 and 2-year-old all while remaining sterile. She then took the three siblings to the kitchen area where she prepared food for them to eat, and fed the smallest child. The kids made a huge mess with the pudding in the kitchen area and Amanda cleaned all of that up. With enduring all of these obstacles, she remained friendly and unbothered by the situation. I commend her for all she did for this family, she definitely went above and beyond. With this population of patients, they are usually judged prematurely which is why I am so happy to recognize her.

Thank you, Amanda, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
