My mother, J, experienced an episode of sundowning. In fits of defiance she was pulling off her sheets, her oxygen and BP monitors, yelling for my brother to come downstairs and get her out of bed (she can’t walk), as well as rambling about who knows what. Amanda was so sweet, kind, and understanding. She found alternative locations for monitors, and patiently put her sheets on as she threw them off. Repeated back to her all of her concerns and assured her all would be fine. She sang Edelweiss for an hour to get her to sleep and then another half hour to get her back to sleep. Her positivity and compassion never faltered (long after mine had). How many nurses sing their patients to sleep?!? Above and beyond for sure, even among an amazing nursing and cleaning staff!
