Amanda treated a patient that required a complex treatment regimen of multiple chemotherapy/immunotherapy agents. The first day of treatment is time intensive and requires close monitoring of the patient. Even with close monitoring, this patient reacted immediately, and Amanda took charge and made sure all measures and tasks for the drug reaction were followed. However, the patient continued to react, and she stayed by the patient's side to make sure — physically and emotionally — the patient and family were well cared for. With the severe reaction, the treatment took longer than expected, and Amanda stayed past her shift to make sure the treatment was finished safely and allowed one of the 'late' nurses to go home because it was well after closing hours for the Cancer Center.

The next day, Amanda followed up with the patient. I had the pleasure of taking care of this patient a week later, and that patient commented about the fantastic care they received from Amanda. The patient was extremely grateful and appreciative. Amanda is an amazing nurse and is very worthy of this award.
