Amanda took time to sit and chat with me when she was on shift that week, I was quite distressed and emotional during my stay and she was kind, comforting and I felt like I was talking to a friend.
Amanda was one of the lovely midwives who cared for me after I gave birth to my son. During the first night on ward L36 my newborn baby was unexpectedly admitted to the neonatal ward due to an episode of choking/seizure type behaviour. Over the next week he remained on neonatal ward. All of the midwives and staff on ward L36 were extremely kind to me during that week but Amanda went above and beyond for me.

After the first couple of days it was being discussed that I may have to move wards or be discharged home which was extremely upsetting for me as I did not want to be away from my baby and wanted to continue exclusively breastfeeding which would have been very difficult if I had been sent home. Amanda made sure that the discussions were communicated to me and was able to arrange for me to continue staying on the ward, not just once but again a couple of days later when again my discharge was being considered. I was even moved to another bed on a bay that was empty for one night so that I could get a few hours sleep without other mums and babies nearby, I was really touched with how thoughtful and kind this was.

Amanda took time to sit and chat with me when she was on shift that week, I was quite distressed and emotional during my stay and she was kind, comforting and I felt like I was talking to a friend. Her care and compassion for my situation with my newborn baby poorly on neonatal ward and my partner being unable to stay after 8pm due to the covid restrictions will stay with me forever. Having a friendly and caring person to talk to when returning to the ward made all the difference to my mental health during that extremely difficult week.

We were so pleased it was Amanda who was on shift to discharge us a week after our arrival so that we were able to thank her for all her efforts keeping me on the ward and how kind and supportive she had been but I really feel she is a true DAISY Nurse. All of the team; the midwives, student midwives and the housekeeping and catering staff were absolutely brilliant with me over those 7 days but Amanda really went above and beyond to ensure I could stay on the ward until my baby was discharged from neonatal and I’ll remember that forever. Thank you.
