She played such an important role in making sure my mom got the right treatment
Although our time with Nurse Amanda was brief, she had the biggest impact on my mother’s treatment at UPMC East.

My mother arrived at the ER in January 2024.  She is a 79-year-old woman who had suddenly weakened over several days and was disoriented and showing signs of a UTI. She was unable to control her bladder and was almost septic.  The ER doctor tested for a UTI, which was negative, and then ordered a PT/OT consult.  Unfortunately, he did not address the sudden weakness and left us without much information overnight.  When Amanda met my mother, she immediately listened to our concerns and noticed my mom’s arms moving in an uncoordinated manner.  She requested a neuro consult and we were off and running.  She did not stop pushing for diagnostic support while we were there.
As she did this, she also made my mom feel important and cared for.  She was compassionate, explained everything, and was supportive when we were moved to the CDU.
She played such an important role in making sure my mom got the right treatment.  We ended up needing emergency surgery on her spine. If it weren't for Amanda, I’m sure we would have ended up in the wrong place and mom would have been paralyzed.

Thanks to Amanda for noticing our concerns and for listening and jumping into action.  She treats patients with dignity and respect as well as supporting them to be safe, seen and heard.

Thank you, Amanda!
