Amanda was always there with answers to questions, a smile, a reassuring word, and an upbeat attitude.

I was admitted to New York-Presbyterian Lower Manhattan Hospital through the ER. I ended up on the fourth floor, and for the following four days, I was treated by doctors, nurses, and staff that made me feel as comfortable and welcome as possible in consideration of such circumstances. I am taking this opportunity to write in regard to one nurse, in particular, Amanda Marcano. Amanda was the primary nurse that dealt with me throughout my stay. No one, especially me, likes to be a patient in a hospital. In fact, I dread them and doctors as well, which probably had some cause that led me to the ER. Amanda was always there with answers to questions, a smile, a reassuring word, and an upbeat attitude. I was admitted for extremely high blood pressure and sugar levels, and Amanda, and all the nurses, would take my pressure and sugar levels, and even though they were high, Amanda would always assure me that I could get them down and helped me to understand what I needed to do to achieve that goal. As I make drastic changes in my lifestyle, and, believe me, it's not easy, I remember her lessons and, more so, am still buoyed by her words of encouragement. She made my time there, at the very least, bearable. Should there be a definition of a "great nurse," be it caring, nurturing, friendly, empathetic, and a hundred more traits, Amanda would fit perfectly. I consider myself very fortunate to have her help me throughout my stay.
