I am here out of state traveling and the airlines lost my bags with my insulin inside which created a severe problem for me. My blood sugar went up to 689 which when it gets to 400, I could have slipped into a diabetic coma. Now here comes my guardian angel, Nurse Amanda. Nurse Amanda came in immediately with a plan of action to save my life and fix the issue with my insulin. She communicated with me every step of the way. Every concern, need or question I had, she explained it to me very well and more importantly, she solved my issue.
In my lifetime, I have been hospitalized over 100 times for cancer, tumors in my uterus, migraines, blood pressure, and diabetes. All over the USA - from California to Texas and to Florida, I have seen lots of nurses in my 46 years of life. I have thanked God today for Amanda. She is by far the best nurse I have had in my entire life. I came in with a 689 blood sugar level, dizzy, headache, blurry vision and now I am leaving with my blood sugar under control and I can see again. Thank you to Amanda and the entire team here at Beaumont in Michigan!

I wanted to let you know further about the extraordinary care Amanda provided earlier this month. Amanda was caring for a young lady with a significant psychiatric history that required inpatient psychiatric hospitalization after she was cleared medically. This psychiatric diagnosis manifested behaviors that were, at times, a challenge to the nursing staff. Amanda cared for this lady for three consecutive days and could not have been more kind and patient. On day three, this lady told Amanda she had been sexually assaulted while being a patient in Beaumont Dearborn. Soon her story changed to being assaulted in the ED at Beaumont Dearborn. Very quickly after that, her story changed to being assaulted, in Detroit, sometime before her admission to Beaumont Dearborn. This kind of story can be very frustrating for a busy staff RN. Amanda alerted the proper staff which resulted in an investigation by Detroit police. During the entire time, Amanda remained kind, compassionate, and patient with this lady. The patient even told Amanda that she knew no one would believe her because "she was crazy and couldn't remember everything." Amanda offered this lady support and ensured she received the proper care she needed while continuing to advocate for her. As a former Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) for Wayne County, I was truly impressed and awed by the care Amanda provided this lady. Amanda never expressed disbelief in this lady's story. She provided her with the kindness and respect that so many of our vulnerable population need but never find. As a former SANE RN, I have seen many of these people mistreated and misjudged because of the circumstances surrounding their human condition, by the very people who were sworn to provide them care. Amanda was an angel sent to care for this lady and for this I am truly grateful.
