I have had the pleasure of working as Amanda's manager for the last 5 months and have witnessed her daily compassion for patients. As with many other units, ours can be quite challenging at times. I have witnessed several interactions between Amanda and her patients and have been impressed with the professional manner in which she conducts herself. She greets each new patient with a smile and does her best to make them feel at ease. On Neurosciences, patients are often times very sick or have just received new and difficult diagnoses. Amanda always does her best to make these patients feel comfortable and well cared for. Education is her strong point, and she makes sure each patient understands their plan of care and why their treatment is necessary. She has a superb bedside manner and it shows by the compliments her patients have related to me.
One such patient was a patient on palliative care, his family was so happy to have had Amanda care for their dying father that they requested to speak to me to recount what excellent treatment she had provided to their dear father. They stated that during this unimaginably difficult time, Amanda was a bright spot in their darkness. They said when they left their father here with Amanda they were confident that their loved one was in good hands. Amanda is an extraordinary nurse and we are lucky to have her on our Neurosciences team!
