Amanda took the time to talk with us (actually sitting down with me at one point) and explained things so well.
On January 7th my husband G, was put on a ventilator due to complications from a medical detox. I was not able to come to see him for those first two weeks because of COVID, but when he was taken off the ventilator, I was then permitted to. However, on January 31st he went into cardiac arrest and had to be intubated again. This time he was also non-responsive. The next 10 days were very difficult as the doctors proceeded to treat the various issues he was having that they thought could be keeping him non-responsive.
All of the nurses we encountered in the critical care unit were wonderful. I could see that he was being well taken care of with concern, respect, and dignity by all of them. However, Amanda not only ministered to my husband but to myself and my family as well. Amanda took the time to talk with us (actually sitting down with me at one point) and explained things so well. She was clearly a knowledgeable nurse. She listened to our story and really understood what had brought us to this juncture. She supported us when it came time to make the difficult decision to take him off the ventilator. Through all of it, we could clearly see she cared deeply about my husband and her patient and us as his family.
Every one of us who encountered Amanda was impressed also with how well she cared for him. She was tuned in to his physical needs and always doing anything she could to make him more comfortable and keep him from developing any additional issues. I truly believe she is the kind of nurse who deserves recognition for her service to our family as well as all of her patients.
