Amanda had 19 nominations from a variety of staff!
The first nomination was from a co-worker who first worked with Amanda 11 years ago on a surgical floor and now is able to work with her in the Specialty Clinic. Amanda displayed all the Bryan Core Values before they were our Core Values. She was welcoming, an exceptional nurse and patient advocate. The nominator shared Amanda takes the time to get to know her patients, listen to their concerns, and always nurtures when needed. She consistently displays professionalism in dealing with patients and staff and treats each patient with compassion, dignity, and respect. She is a 'go-to' resource for staff, MDs and patients. She goes above and beyond to maximize patient outcomes. Amanda strengthens our entire team and we would trust her to care for any of our own family.
Other nominations included these words to describe Amanda:
Amazing, cheerful, empathetic, compassionate, dedicated, competent, patient advocate, always willing to teach about wound care and products offering Evidence-Based Practice, team player, approachable, flexible, patients trust her, comforting and understanding, spends whatever amount of time and energy is needed to obtain the best possible outcome for each individual, her knowledge in wound care is a saving grace to her patients.
Another nomination told the story of a patient who was coming to get marked for an ostomy. The patient was angry, not trusting health care workers, and feeling hopeless. Prior to Amanda coming into the room, the patient shared her angst with the admitting nurse and said "I don't even know why I'm here." This nurse explained that Amanda is a gentle soul, so kind and incredibly knowledgeable and thought she would feel much better by the time she left. The patient responded curtly and was not sure. This nurse briefed Amanda prior to going into the room and soon after entering, the patient made a comment that she wasn't sure she wanted to live with the ostomy. In true Amanda style, she stopped, sat near the patient, touched her hand, and said. "That makes me so sad to hear. I want to help you and hope you will listen and we can get through this together." Amanda spent no less than 45 minutes with this patient, supporting, educating, and making a strong connection with the patient, alleviating her fears and instilling hope. The transformation was remarkable. This patient walked out smiling, visiting, and stated, "I look forward to the next time we see each other."
Amanda Knows the Way and Shows the Way, she cares beyond crazy! She is a gem and we are all so very blessed to have her as a strong member of our team!
