Amanda Platania, BSN, RN
I finished my 10th chemo, and my mom, my husband, and I really saw meaning in this DAISY Award. We immediately pulled our phones out to nominate Amanda; we didn’t even need to discuss it. That’s how touched we all were after one visit with Amanda.
I can’t even put into words how grateful I am that Amanda has been my nurse on not one but two different infusion visits. I have been coming to this site since I started my cancer journey, and I was with Amanda on my 10th and 11th treatment. Soon I will be starting a new regimen that I’m up to my ears with worries about, but the two times I’ve had Amanda as my nurse, I’ve felt nothing but ease and comfort.
She is the kind of nurse that makes you feel like you really can conquer anything, anything at all. Amanda really talks to me like a friend, not a patient, and that’s what I appreciate the most. She really is empowering and reassures me from the start of my treatment to the very end.
Something as small as “you call me at any time, I’ll come right back to this chair” in her eyes means the world to my family and me. My mom and husband also appreciate how warm she’s been with us.
I requested that she be my nurse for my new infusions, being that I’ll be a nervous wreck. She has already educated my family and me on the new cycles in a way that we understood it, and she had no issues answering all my silly questions (and I had a million). I actually am starting to look forward to my new regimen now. I’ve been checking my MyChart religiously, hoping that her name pops up on my visit for this week (I come in every week).
When my mom asked her how she got into oncology, it brought us all to tears. She is such a special human, and she is in the right specialty without a doubt. She even wears a cancer pendant that makes me realize she isn’t just here for the money or the status; this isn’t just a job for her.
Her personality is bright and bubbly, and there’s always a lot of laughs shared during my time. My favorite thing has to be how, at the end of every infusion, she tells me to “do something fun this weekend, do something that will make you happy.”
I have a million more things to say, but this was just a touch of how blessed I feel to have crossed paths with Amanda during this vulnerable time. Angels on earth are oncology nurses!
