Although she may have attended to my wife on other occasions, Amanda Ponsler was the nurse who was assigned to my wife most recently. This particular weekend was beyond a shadow of a doubt the beginning of the worst days of my wife's and my 27-year marriage. Starting on Saturday evening, my wife's condition had reached the point where I was forced to make the decision on Sunday evening to switch over to the status known as "comfort care". It was quite simply the absolute most difficult thing life has ever required of me in all of my 62 years on this earth. And Amanda was there for all of it! I've met dozens of the exemplary nursing staff here at Aurora over the last 9 years and Amanda Ponsler is as good as it gets. She was exceptionally attentive, knowledgeable and comforting to both my wife and I. I understand that she is what's known as a "floater" nurse. At a delicate point in time that required the utmost in compassion and empathy, she was exactly the kind of person that we (especially me) needed to be with us. The good Lord certainly "floated" Amanda to the right room that weekend. This wonderful young lady offered her time to listen to me ramble on when I was more distraught than I'd ever been before. I could tell that she was truly hurting right along with me. My beautiful wife stayed with us for 10 more comfortable days, during which Amanda would stop by her room to see how we were doing. Either on her day off or after a shift change. She is wonderful and professional! And as far as nurses go, she's the real deal!
