March 2026 Honoree
Amanda R Martinez, RN
Coming through a procedure involving your heart, it's easier to have confidence in the surgeon's skills returning you to a good quality of life. But when you come out of a procedure like that, there is some disorientation and doubt about what comes next.
Nurse Amanda was the perfect cure for that. She was truly amazing in addressing the lack of clarity on my part as a patient. She had a charismatic way of successfully easing my anxieties as well as my pain, and she did so while educating me every step of the way as to everything that each medical person was doing to me and for me.
I knew she was busy on the floor with responsibility for other patients as well, but I never once felt that she shortchanged me one single minute in answering my questions or making sure that I was comfortable.
I felt she was extraordinary in the way she moved in to stop the unexpected bleeding that suddenly presented itself. She wasted no time jumping in with literally both hands, applying pressure on the site for a long time until the bleeding fully stopped.
She carried on a conversation with me so that my mind was not on the crisis. The whole time that I witnessed her savvy technical approach, I also appreciated her relationship building, promoting trust not only in her but in the entire Integris team.
It was amazing to see her in action while at the same time mentoring the nursing students who stood at her side. Beyond a teacher, I saw her as an encourager to those less experienced or less confident.
Always attentive; never appeared impatient with me or others.
Without taking anything away from the night nurse, being tended to by Amanda M during the day was like "night and day," which I imagine may be attributable to a difference in experience.
Amanda was so friendly and so capable in the execution of her duties that I was thrilled to see her return early the next morning (thinking that she probably didn't get much sleep) before returning full of energy and info for my discharge.
