I am very thankful for Amanda and for other nurses who, like her, treat patients and their families with the utmost patience, care, and respect, not to mention a smile!
My husband went in for a surgical procedure. He was under the impression that this would be an in-and-out, very minor procedure, but, as it turned out, he needed full anesthesia, and the procedure was more complex than we had imagined. Our nurse, Amanda was with us before and after the procedure, with a smile and sparkle in her eye, she laughed with us, reassured us, asked my husband whether he needed a blanket, or whether he needed anything to be more comfortable, informed us in advance when she was on break, and when she will return, and was professional, calm and kind throughout. My husband had a difficult start to the procedure, as his veins could not be located, and he was repeatedly pricked in tender spots. He normally has a pretty high pain tolerance, but this time around, it was very painful. When I came to the recovery room in Tisch 6, Amanda was there with him, feeding him, reassuring him, and patiently and kindly answering all his questions, as well as mine. I can only imagine how tired Amanda must have been, at 9 PM on a Friday night, but she never once gave us the impression that she was ready to go or ready for us to go. In fact, the opposite. She made sure to supply us with everything we needed, went over every detail clearly, and explained everything she was doing, and the meaning of the various vital sign results. I felt that with Amanda, my husband was in such caring and kind hands. It really made a difference to me. I myself am a teacher. I am always very consciously patient and kind with my little ones, but I think it's easy to forget that adults need that same care and love when they are in challenging medical situations. I am very thankful for Amanda and for other nurses who, like her, treat patients and their families with the utmost patience, care, and respect, not to mention a smile!
