I would like to nominate Amanda (Mandy) Rennie for demonstrating compassion and excellence to calm a patient’s fear and anxiety. The patient was a 22-week pregnant patient that had been transferred from her hometown of Paoli to Bloomington for admission due to a lack of beds. The patient and her husband were anxious, and the husband wanted the patient to be discharged. Mandy recognized that there appeared to be some family dynamics in play and that the discharge was not in the patient's and unborn baby’s best interest and that harm could come if the patient was discharged before the physician deemed appropriate. The patient had increased anxiety and requested the husband to visit and bring a shirt of his, but the family did not have gas money. Mandy gave the husband gas money in order to relieve anxiety and fear in the patient. Her actions exemplify compassion and IU Health values of compassion, purpose, and excellence.

Thank you, Amanda, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
