he models resilience, compassion, and balance, inspiring so many around her.
Since stepping into her nurse manager role in April 2024, Amanda has been a constant pillar of excellence, fully devoted to the growth of her team and those she works alongside. Her consistent, visible, and compassionate leadership style serves as a role model for everyone around her. Amanda brings contagious energy, inspires excellence, and champions patient-centered care across our entire service line.
When Amanda transitioned into this role, I said that the best thing for the ED leadership team would be someone who challenged me to do better. Amanda has lived up to that and more, pushing all of us to strive for excellence every single day. Her collegiality and commitment to building a unified Emergency Service Line approach between Adult, Pediatric, and Behavioral Health EDs have been remarkable, and the difference is felt daily by both staff and patients.
It has also been inspiring to see Amanda bring an entirely new dimension to the leadership team—one that has had a tremendous positive impact across the department. Her initiatives to build team member engagement are a model for many. In fact, her work has drawn the attention of other units, who have reached out to learn about her strategies and apply them to their own teams. Amanda partners seamlessly with other leaders within Novant, sharing her vision and emphasizing the importance of team member engagement, knowing that when team members feel supported and valued, patient care always improves.
Equally impressive is Amanda’s commitment to mentorship. She takes time to meet with her assistant nurse manager, coaching and developing them into stronger leaders and well-rounded role models. She understands that great leadership is not only about the present but also about building the next generation of leaders.
Amanda leads by example in every sense. When her team needs her most, she is never afraid to step in and help—whether it’s during moments of calm or in the middle of chaos on the adult side. She is the kind of nurse and leader any one of us would feel confident caring for our loved ones.
And let’s not forget her extra superpower: Amanda balances all of this while also embracing her role as a devoted mother, wife, and pet mom. She demonstrates the tenacity only moms can have—balancing a demanding role with caring for her two beautiful children, her husband, and her anxious dog, Jack. She models resilience, compassion, and balance, inspiring so many around her.
At Novant Health, we talk often about what it means to be remarkable. Amanda not only embodies this word, but she also exemplifies it through her leadership. To illustrate this, I would describe Amanda with the mnemonic REMARKABLE:
R – Resilient: She leads with strength and grace, even in the most challenging moments.
E – Empowering: She lifts her team up, encouraging growth and confidence in every nurse.
M – Motivational: Her energy is contagious, inspiring others to strive for excellence.
A – Approachable: She is always available to listen, guide, and support.
R – Respectful: She values every voice, creating a culture of inclusion and collaboration.
K – Knowledgeable: She demonstrates clinical and leadership expertise that her team can rely on.
A – Advocate: She champions patients, team, and the organization’s mission.
B – Bridge-builder: She connects Adult, Peds, and BH EDs into a seamless service line.
L – Leader by example: She sets the tone through her actions, not just her words.
E – Exemplary: She embodies what it means to be a remarkable nurse leader.
Amanda is not just a great nurse or a great manager—she is a truly remarkable leader. She is the kind of role model we are fortunate to have at PMC ED and throughout Novant Health.
