I don’t think Amanda realizes just how much of a positive impact she had on our experience and I wouldn’t change it for the world, even if I could.
Amanda Ridgeway was every good word I can think of when it came to the birth of my first baby. She took care of not only my baby and me but my family and visitors as well, constantly making sure we were all taken care of and comfortable. Whether it be something as simple as drinks and food, to providing the best support during one of the most emotional, life-changing times in our lives. Her empathetic listening towards my husband and I when it came to any anxiety and worries we may have had made a world of a difference in our stay at MHP. She provided reassurance and support as well as proving her knowledge on many topics ranging from breastfeeding to labor and so much more.
Amanda was absolutely one of the best nurses I’ve ever encountered and I give her huge credit for being able to get through my labor as easily as I did. I have a huge fear of needles, but I needed the epidural to get through contractions and she sat and held my hand the whole time breathing deeply with me and reassuring me I was doing great and it was going to be fine.
But, I think one moment I will never forget was right before the final push saying, “I can’t do it!” and she looked me dead in the eyes and said, “You already are! Yes, you can!” And she was right! I don’t think she realizes just how much of a positive impact she had on our experience and I wouldn’t change it for the world, even if I could. Our hospital is extremely lucky to have someone so passionate about their job and patients! I strongly feel Amanda needs to be recognized for the amazing job she does, working at Mahaska Health.
