Amanda Riera is a full time, bilingual, nurse home visitor for the Nurse Family Partnership program in Monmouth County. Most of her clients are Spanish speaking from other countries. Amanda demonstrates a true understanding for the cultures of her clients and their families. She understands the importance of respecting the beliefs of her clients while still needing to replace misinformation with evidence based knowledge. Amanda celebrates the strong desire that many of her Spanish speaking clients have to breastfeed and shares her research based information when educating and supporting her clients in breastfeeding their babies. This has lead to a high rate of mothers who not only initiated breastfeeding but continue up to 6 months or longer. Amanda collaborates with various agencies in the community to help provide for the needs of her clients. Through her efforts, her clients have received breast feeding support from our WIC lactation consultants as well as basic baby necessities, such as diapers and clothing, from Madonna House and others. Her compassion for her clients is demonstrated by her willingness to see them whenever or wherever possible. Amanda has been known to meet her clients in supermarkets and Laundromats on her own time if they need her.
