The patient burst into tears as did all the staff at this moment of true love and joy that we could give this man. And it was all because one nurse knew the value of and championed for such a moment.
Amanda-Rose established a bond with a patient over the love of dogs. She knew how much he missed his golden retriever and how much it would benefit him to just be able to see him again. Despite initially being told that COVID restrictions were a barrier to pet visitation, she wasn't to be deterred. Amanda-Rose wrote a heartfelt email to all key administrators expressing how she felt that making this visit happen would truly offer as important of an impact as any treatment. And being that she knew the patient's status was waning she felt it was even more important to reunite these two. The administration embraced her request and Amanda-Rose set up everything with the family. When the time came, the entire 1 South staff led by Amanda-Rose and the patient's sister and brother-in-law brought the lovable golden retriever to his master's bedside. The patient burst into tears as did all the staff at this moment of true love and joy that we could give this man. And it was all because one nurse knew the value of and championed for such a moment.

From the moment my mother was admitted to Newton Memorial, Amanda-Rose provided professional and caring attention to her needs. From the moment I arrived, she kept me abreast of all procedures, tests, and concerns. As a vital member of my mother's support, Amanda-Rose included me in all information, while still making my mother feel competent and capable. Even though a senior, Amanda-Rose never spoke 'down' to her or made her feel inferior. She demonstrated exceptional listening as well as communication skills and is clearly knowledgeable as a nurse. She never made us feel as if we asked too many questions, and often asked if she could answer anything else. Although nurses have a highly demanding job, she never made us feel rushed or a burden. Amanda-Rose is an exemplary nurse!!

Amanda Rose always goes above and beyond for her patients, but one situation sticks out in my mind. One of Amanda Rose's patients was being placed on hospice care at home. The patient was not doing well and most likely would not last very long. Amanda Rose made it her mission to get the patient home, so he could pass surrounded by his family. Even after multiple sugar crashes and medication problems, Amanda Rose successfully transferred the patient home. It's situations like this that really show how much Amanda Rose cares for her patients.

It was a day where we had 5 discharges and 2 patients expire. We had a patient who wanted to go home on hospice and almost did not get his last wish. The only reason that it did was because of the compassion and ferocity with which Amanda Rose advocates for her patients. The way she solved problem after problem regarding this patient's discharge was commendable. The way she kept the patient and family updated to every step was meticulous. The way she granted a dying patient their last wish was heroic. Her deservedness of any award is undisputed for we are blessed to work alongside her.
