December 2017 Honoree
amanda schoonmaker 2, BSN, RN
Amanda was a great help in my recovery from burns I got when my house burned down. She was caring and very helpful. This year I lost a lot. My husband of 36 years passed away very suddenly, and then my house burned down. When I would talk to Amanda about things she listened and even told me I could call her at home if I needed her. Not too many people would do that for someone they just met. As we got to know each other better we found out we had a lot in common and knew a lot of the same people. Amanda was there, she went beyond her job. I think she never got in a hurry or rushed through our visit, which meant a lot to me. On our last visit, which was my discharge, I told her I was sad to see her go. She looked at me, gave me a hug like she always did and told me if I needed anything at all she would be there, and when I get my house rebuilt she would be there to welcome me back home. That's a very special person you can tell loves her job and the people she takes care of.
