I came on my shift as an AVASYS Monitor and had a lady with stage 4 cancer (end of life). Her RN was Amanda Simpson. Amanda called me after assessment to let me know to watch this patient closely for breathing issues. I watched as she was in the room every hour, turning, changing pillows, clean sheet, wet cloth for head, giving meds, taking vitals, Ice under arms, etc. Amanda came in the room and gave her a rosary in her hand and told the her what it was. Later Amanda came in the room and prayed the rosary with her. Amanda took the time to hold her hand, rub her neck and showed her more love and compassion than I ever witnessed. This is the kind of nurse I want when I'm sick.
