I came to the ED and was diagnosed with cancer. A few days later, after testing, I found out it was stage 4 small cell lung and liver cancer. This was devastating to me after moving to Washington a year ago by myself and going through a nasty divorce and many other life barriers. On January 2, 2024, I was totally devastated and had a meltdown. Nurse Amanda, who provided outstanding care throughout the day, as busy as she was, always took the time to be attentive, polite, and was always empathetic to my pain. However, on this day, I had a meltdown toward the end of her shift. She saw that there was clearly something serious I was going through. At that point I literally fell down to my knees, crying, shaking and having a meltdown. Nurse Amanda, at that point, dropped everything she was doing, picked me up, hugged and consoled me so that I could calm down and think rationally. She stayed with me for quite some time listening to me, with her eyes welled up with tears. With great empathy and compassion she continued to hug me and comfort me. This made a life changing impact on me to go on and go through with my treatment. She should be acknowledged for her professionalism, empathy, and compassion for her patients. It is nurses like her who make a difference and as bad as my diagnosis and personal life is, her presence at PeaceHealth makes me very glad I chose to come to PeaceHealth emergency to begin with. Thank you for the care I received. Everyone has been fantastic in my care and treatment and there is no other place I would go for this type of care and procedures. Thank you nurse Amanda for your dedication to me and seeing me as a human being and taking such good care of me both physically, emotionally and spiritually.
