A patient called the IVR department to reschedule their appointment. Amanda Waller noted the patient did not sound "right" and that their speech was slurred. They made a statement about not wanting to wake up from their exam and told Amanda they would only come in if she made sure they would not wake from their exam. She just felt something was off with the patient. Trusting her nursing intuition, she contacted the local police department to do a wellness check on the patient. The patient was brought into the emergency department and found to be septic. Amanda took the time to really listen to her patient even though she had never met them in person. She utilized her nursing skills to assist a patient who needed help. Amanda's actions helped this patient get the medical attention they needed and may have potentially saved their life. She went above and beyond to provide exceptional service and provide compassion to this patient.
