Amber even got her up, gave her a shower, and took the time to comb and braid her hair, which made her feel special.
My daughter was admitted to the Hospital and was in the ER for about a week and a half with flu and bowel obstruction. My daughter is an developmentally delayed adult with cerebral Palsy and with a trach. She didn’t get the care or understanding that she needed as far as taking the time to listen to her worries and trying to have her understand the procedures they were going to do next. When they finally moved her to a regular room on 4West, she had some good nurses, but none as good as Amber. Amber took her time with my daughter, helped her get up, did a little walking, also helped her with understanding the little things like showing her how to change the channel on the TV and how to use the call button, organize her room because that’s what is important to my daughter. She even got her up, gave her a shower, and took the time to comb and braid her hair, which made her feel special. I got to take a break and go home to take a shower myself. I didn’t have to be there with her all day because my daughter knew she was in good hands. Her father and I felt at ease; we knew our daughter was in good hands. This made the 17 days go by a little easier. We need more nurses to be more compassionate towards adults with special needs. Our daughter’s care on 4 West was good, but she loved Nurse Amber the best, which made her healing a lot faster for us to go home.
