Amber remained calm and focused, helping to position the patient more upright for improved airway support.
I was the preceptor for Amber during her Senior Practicum at UVMMC. From day one, she consistently showed up early for every shift, eager to learn, advocate for patients, and build trust with staff, patients, and their family members. She always put patient safety as her number 1 priority. While we were helping a critical patient get cleaned up with fresh linen, the patient’s status started to deteriorate to the point that a rapid response was called. Amber remained calm and focused, helping to position the patient more upright for improved airway support. She stayed right next to the patient during this stressful situation, providing ongoing care until the rapid response team showed up to take over and transport the patient to the ICU. Amber made sure all the patient’s belongings also made it over to the ICU. It’s not easy to stay calm and focused as a new nurse during rapid responses, but Amber managed to do so. Multiple staff members commented on how well she did throughout her entire senior practicum.
