I met Nurse Amber Barabas when I was transported from the 8th floor to 6 West following back surgery. I have and had very limited leg movement as I have multiple sclerosis and both legs were affected after surgery. Not only did her kindness and compassion help me with my recovery, but also her knowledge. She was the one who thought Gabapentin would help with the extreme pain I was experiencing; she was the one who suggested it to the doctor and Gabapentin was added to my cocktail of medications. She also suggested the lidocaine patches which are being used. I was very emotional after the surgery as I was worried I would never walk again. Amber was there to help me through my brief moments of insecurity and sadness. I will never forget that, nor her zest for nursing, giving, and indeed for life. Lutheran General Hospital is extremely fortunate to have Nurse Barabas on its staff.
