I am writing to you today in hopes of finding a nurse in the labor and delivery unit. I found your email and (fingers crossed) you could get this message to her to let her know how appreciated she is. The nurse I am trying to find is named Amber. I believe her last name begins with a D. She was the nurse who delivered my son. This nurse was possibly the kindest, most knowledgeable nurse I have had the pleasure of meeting. I say this not lightly because I myself am a nurse in the emergency department at Vidant.

My son came early at 35 weeks gestation unexpectedly. I was sent to the hospital to be induced on the 31st, but the induction was canceled due to improvement in my lab work and blood pressure. I was set to be discharged that same day and unexpectedly continued to dilate. Amber not only listened to me but advocated for me when my doctor would not. I fully believe if not for her, I would have been discharged home and ended up in an emergency coming back into the hospital. Amber showed both my husband and me kindness and patience, even when I was not being the easiest patient in the world.

When it came time to deliver my son, he was having large decelerations and the monitors would lose his heartbeat. I remember her next to me staying calm, encouraging, and (literally) flipping me from side to side for hours trying to get his heart rate back up. My labor ended with a vacuum assisted birth and the NICU team on standby in my room. Everything happened so quickly with his birth and moving to 1 west that I never got the chance to tell her how appreciative I truly was. Amber, you are truly an amazing nurse. Any patient that has you is in great hands. Please know how appreciative I and my husband are of you! My son's health and well-being were greatly improved because of you. Thank you.
