Labor and Delivery
Dupont Hospital
Amber has a gift and considerable experience creating a positive, calm, peaceful environment and setting the tone for a beautiful birth experience.
Amber Hagen is an incredibly compassionate and kind nurse in the labor and delivery unit at Dupont. We have had our previous three babies in Florida, with nurse practitioners, at our home. Our fourth birth had been planned at the Birth Center across the street from Dupont. However, at 39 weeks we were told we had to be induced at Dupont.
Amber came into our room at 8 a.m. with a very encouraging and peaceful personality. Without even explaining, she understood how to make me feel happy and at peace. She clearly is very knowledgeable in natural birth and our background of hypnobirthing, laborer in water, and not rushing my body as I was on the IV Pitocin. What could have been a disappointment, became one of the best experiences of my life.
Amber offered to use the hypnobirthing term "waves of pressure" when asking me to rate my pain during labor. This was so calming to have a nurse who was that familiar with the natural labor tools that we use. I did not have to explain my birth plan in detail, she simply understood, valued, appreciated, and was happy to help me recreate my peaceful calm, quiet, dark birth room just how I had planned. The IV Pitocin was increased gradually and we were given the birth suite with the big tub for laboring.
When Amber came to check on us, she was quiet and peaceful, adjusting the wireless monitors and never mentioning that our rebozo may be causing her to readjust the monitor. She came and quietly found us walking in the hallway with our IV to adjust the heart rate monitor. She gave us the freedom to labor in peace with movement, even offering to bring us a birth stool, balls, and peanut. She was patient and never made us feel rushed using the IV Pitocin. The dose was gradually increased from 8 a.m. throughout the day and plateauing the dose when my waves of pressure were causing me to progress successfully, but at a tolerable intensity.
Amber has a gift and considerable experience creating a positive, calm, peaceful environment and setting the tone for a beautiful birth experience. I felt respected, valued, and so incredibly grateful to have been blessed to have Amber as my nurse from check-in at 7:30 a.m. to my move to the postpartum floor at 6:30 p.m. Thank you from the bottom of my heart! My first hospital birth was a beautiful experience, and I am forever grateful.
