Amber created a note to the parents, from their "glow worm" baby, in an attempt to ease her pain and worry.
We had a mother who came into our facility and had to deliver early due to medical reasons out of her control. Her birth plan obviously did not go as planned when she had to be induced and then ended up with a C-section. Due to the fact she delivered early and to some other complications, her baby boy ended up in the NICU. He then ended up having to have bili-lights. Mom was discharged and then had to be readmitted two days later due to further medical complications, which required her to have a medical treatment that did not allow her the ability to visit her baby in the NICU.

She was ultimately very upset with how things had progressed and was deeply saddened that she could not care for her child while she was being treated. Amber was the NICU nurse the day that the mom was readmitted. Knowing how upset the parents were, especially the mom since she physically couldn't come and visit her baby, she went above and beyond. Amber created a note to the parents, from their "glow worm" baby, in an attempt to ease her pain and worry. On that note the parents were informed of his health status, his current treatment, and that he would still be there when she got better. She also included his handprint and ensured that they both knew how great they were doing as new parents and how much he loved them.

That letter was delivered to the parents and ultimately made their horrible day so much better. It is this type of nursing that makes a difference in everyone's lives. Not just those parents but everyone. My staff, the directors in the facility and so many others were personally touched by the extra care and devotion that was displayed by Amber. It proves our culture "We care like family."

The Note: "Hey Mom and Dad! I heard you have had a bit of a rough day :( & I want you to know that I LOVE YOU! Everything is same-ole same-ole over here. The nurses are taking good care of me - I'm glad you're taking care of yourself, Mom! Thanks for your great example. You two are doing a fantastic job! See you when you're feeling better! Love, Your Glowworm {Name} P.S. The NNP isn't planning on changing any orders until tomorrow. I'll leave the party lights on for when you're ready to play!
