We had just moved here from southern California and weren’t prepared for the South Dakota winter. Also, I became very depressed and just wanted to die. I attempted to overdose. I was escorted to Unit B. Amber happened to be my nurse. I went to my room, Amber came and started talking to me. I felt I could share anything with her and she would keep me safe. She never talked down to me and she made sure my needs and wants were met. The one thing that struck me was that Amber always has a smile and she makes sure to give her patients 110% of her attention. Amber went above and beyond just doing her job. She honestly cares and when you meet her, that’s apparent right from the start. Because of Amber’s dedication, many of us are able to return home and resume our lives. Amber so deserves this recognition. Because of her, I have the courage to try to get better and the strength to fight for my life. Thank you Amber, couldn’t have done it without you.
